“I grew up in and out of salons, being one of five women in my family,” said Hairstylist Sami Moen. “My family actually went to Rau Salon when I was younger. I was recruited by my stylist when they were looking for help, and throughout high school I worked as a receptionist here. At that time, I was debating on which career path to choose. When an apprenticeship was offered to me I knew it was an incredible opportunity. I did not hesitate to begin my career in the industry and found my place at Rau Salon.”
A 10 year beauty industry veteran, Sami began her career with an apprenticeship at Rau Salon. While taking courses at Gateway Technical College, she trained with both Wendy Rau and Heidi Shulski. She believes she took away the very best from them both. As a previous guest to the salon, she knew she was in great hands. She was excited to be part of a salon that offered exceptional client care.
“My passion is my clients. I consider myself blessed to engage with people from all walks of life on a daily basis. It is incredible to listen to a guest express what they need at the moment and be able to fill that need.” Sami also loves to create a beauty plan with each guest after achieving their desired look. This gives them a guide on how to best maintain the style, color, and the health of their hair. This attention to detail and customized care is one of the many reasons Sami is an in-demand stylist.
Progress is Sami’s ultimate motivation. “I want to grow constantly. I like to keep an eye out for new trends in styling and then challenge myself to reflect these techniques. Rau Salon provides continuing education opportunities, so that we never get complacent with our skill sets. I love furthering my abilities by learning new things and applying them to my work.”
Outside of the salon, Sami makes the most of her free time. She loves to read and practices yoga. In the summer, she enjoys soaking up the sun while camping and exploring all the midwest has to offer. She likes to get lost on long weekends with family and friends.
